The Lands of 50 mph Fog
History
We’ve segmented our Aleutian’s history into five
segments. Select the segment of history you are
interested in from the selections below:
Our history presentation “Aleutians” includes information about the Aleutian Islands themselves
along with the indiginous peoples who lived on those islands for the past 9,000 years or so. Our
“Bibliography” presentation includes a listing of books discovered along the way that cover the
history of the Aleutians…with a heavy dose of material relating to WWII in the Aleutians. The
“WWII Aleutians” section covers the unknown historically amongst most people of the war in the
Aleutians fought against the Japanese military which captured American Sovereign soil for the
first time since the war of 1812, along with the fate of the Aleut inhabitants of those islands. The
“10 ERBS” is essentially a website within a website dealing with the 10th Emergency Rescue
Boat Squadron. They operated along the Aleutian chain during WWII, and thus were not really
connected to any one particular Aleutian Island. And finally…”The Japanese” presents the
material gathered from many WWII Aleutian Veterans, their family and friends, dealing with the
Japanese presence in the Aleutians during WWII.
