shemya-4000 miles from home
(from an unknown sourced “sunday news” article, 1 march 1953)
Aleutian island is only a dot on the map
but its residents like living there!
On March 1st, 1953, there was a population of 40 people occupying
the fog-enshrouded, windy, rainy, snowy island of Shemya. An
unknown reporter along with a staff artist named Robert Juffras
put together an article along with maps and photos of Shemya
telling their story.
