“WWII Attu Scrapbook, 1944-1945”
Kathleen "Kitty" Kent Wason, 80, died on August 23, 2002, in her home in Evergreen, Colorado after a long illness
battling cancer.
Kathleen was born on October 16th, 1921, in Philadelphia, and graduated from Shady Hill School, Shipley School,
and in 1943 from Smith College. She earned a master's degree in education from Fairfield University in 1976. She
served in the American Red Cross on Attu Island during the Aleutian Islands campaign in 1944 and 1945.
Her husband, John; son James and his wife Nancy; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Jessica Wason were with her
at her bedside when she passed away. Other surviving family members are her daughter, Wendy; sons, William and
John Kent Wason; grandchildren, Max and Josh Wason; and brother, Donald Kent.

This is a photo of a Red Cross Representative on the Island of Attu in 1945. The Red Cross provided services such as
giving donuts, cigarettes, sports equipment, and morale boosters. Here they set up refreshments in Holtz Bay and
